It\’s a Feelings Disease - Emotions and Addictions

Fresh Article No Comments »

Boy has 18 months clean and sober. Boy is going to twelve step meetings, praying and meditating each day, talking to his sponsor regularly, doing service like chairing meetings, speaking at detox, sponsoring others. Boy is staying clean one day at a time. Uh Oh ? boy meets girl. Boy and girl go together for a few months. Girl breaks up with boy. Boy is devastated. Boy relapses and loses everything.

Believe it or not this scenario is very realistic indeed. How do I know? It happened to me! They say that the disease of addiction is a feelings disease not because we can\’t learn to handle life on life\’s terms but because I believe us addicts and alcoholics feel very intensely. This does not mean we cannot live normal lives and must shelter ourselves from heartache, but rather we must stay spiritually fit in order to prepare ourselves for those emotional upheavals that inevitably come our way as we trudge through our destinies. When I relapsed with 18 months under my belt I had let up on some of the spiritual exercise that kept me fit.

Sure I was praying and meditating each day, but I stopped meaning the words. I was in a rush when I said my prayers. I didn\’t listen for the answers to my prayers when I meditated. The love relationship shifted my focus from being God centered to being self centered. I was more concerned with looking good and feeling good than I was with helping other addicts and alcoholics recover which is one of the most important things an addict or alcoholic can do to help themselves stay clean and sober. \”When all else fails, help another addict or alcoholic,\” the program professes.

Don\’t get me wrong! There is nothing wrong with feelings, and to boot I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as bad feelings and good feelings. Feelings are our mind\’s teachers. When we feel angry we are being taught that there is an issue that must be dealt with. If we push it away or use because of it we are simply adding more work to be done later. If we feel sad we should know that an event has affected our soul and we are going through the natural grieving stage in order to move on to a better place. Yes, we must allow ourselves to feel our feelings but we cannot be ruled by them.

When we start letting our feelings dictate our actions we start getting into trouble sometimes. How then do we deal with our more difficult feelings in recovery and take preventative measure to minimize them. For some medication is required, anger management classes, breathing exercises, meditation and prayer, and counseling are all fine techniques for dealing with tough emotions.

But I believe the best medicine for those in recovery is to simply stay spiritually fit by going to meetings regularly and sharing honestly from the heart, practicing the spiritual principles of the program like honesty, courage, willingness, open-mindedness (to name a few), staying in touch with other addicts and alcoholics who have been through what you have been through, and carrying the message of recovery to others. In these ways one can get through the ups and downs of the roller coaster road we sometimes call life.

Insurance Related Steps You Can Take to Protect Yourself From a Fire Loss

Fresh Article No Comments »

Have you ever really thought about what would happen if you lost your home in a fire? If you live in a fire prone area, you may have thought about it and concluded, \”It will never happen to me.\” If you have ever evacuated, you might have had a tiny ball of fear in the pit of your stomach, and thought, \”Gosh, I hope everything is OK.\” If you have ever sat in your car and watched walls of flame and smoke sweep through your neighborhood, you have probably bargained with Fate, thinking, \”If we get through this, I\’ll be more prepared, I promise.\”

In 2007, a fire started by downed power lines and driven by 60-80 miles-per-hour winds, swept through Malibu. The Sheriffs\’ Department came to our home at 4:30 AM and told us we had 15 minutes to evacuate.

After the fire, I spoke to my neighbor, whose home was completely destroyed. I asked her how she was doing, and her reply was that she and her husband were busy going through their credit card charges for the last five years trying to identify things they had purchased, and the cost. Can you imagine having to do that?

The first thing you must do is make sure you have adequate insurance coverage. Could you rebuild your home, or buy one of equal quality with your insurance proceeds? Is your home insured for cost, or replacement value? If it is insured for replacement value, does it have a built-in inflation or cost of living adjustment? You owe it to yourself to know the answers to these questions.

Equally important is the insurance on the contents of your home. Chances are that you are under-insured. Take a look at your policy and see what the dollar coverage is. Think about it. Walk through your house and add up the replacement cost of the bigger items, your furniture, television set(s), clothing, and jewelry. You can ask your insurance agent to send someone out to help you determine the adequate amount of coverage. Yes, it may result in a higher premium. No one wants to spend money unnecessarily, but a couple of hundred dollars extra per year in the premium may be money well spent.

Second, you need evidence of what you have inside your house. There are companies who will come to your home and make a videotape of all your belongings. An alternative idea is to take pictures of your most valuable items, but why not have a documented record of everything you own on videotape? If your home burned down, how long would it take just to make a list of its contents? A videotape will insure that you don\’t miss anything and that there will be no disputes as to whether you actually had all the items you claim. Your insurance agent can recommend local companies who can do the videotaping.

Third, if you have any receipts or appraisals for your more expensive possessions, set them aside. You may want to make a list of the cost of your more valuable items if you don\’t have receipts or appraisals. Your videotape and documentation should be kept in a safe deposit box. It won\’t do you any good if it gets burned up with the house.

While on the subject of insurance, you might find out if it covers loss of landscaping. It either does, or it doesn\’t. I lost 20 mature trees in the fire. I was amazed, and pleased, to find out that my homeowner\’s insurance provided coverage for the lesser of either the actual value lost, or $2,500, per shrub.

Finally, if your house should burn down, there are professional consultants/engineers who will help you negotiate replacement value with your insurance company. If you suffer such a loss, these people will probably find you. In case they don\’t, you should know they exist and consider hiring one to assist you. They do it for a living, you would be doing it for the first time.

Make Memories That Matter

Fresh Article No Comments »

When it slammed into Anguilla, Hurricane Luis was a strong category four storm with sustained winds of 150 mph and gusts up to 200 mph. None of us knew what to expect and everyone on the island was terrified. We\’d all seen reports on television of hurricanes completely destroying communities, but it had been thirty years since a bad storm hit Anguilla and people had become complacent. Now, we were scared. As the winds picked up, everyone braced themselves for the worst. Houses were boarded with plywood as were all of the hotels, restaurants and office buildings. The hurricane crashed into Anguilla and stayed for thirty six long hours. And when it was over, Luis had destroyed our little restaurant, leaving behind only scraps of wood and splinters from our tall, teal shutters.

Why is it, you might wonder, that we look back at Hurricane Luis with loving thoughts? Well, thankfully, there was no loss of life or serious injury on Anguilla so the damage was limited to things. Buildings, lamp posts, boats, signs, plants, and cars were completely destroyed. But it\’s what happened after the storm that stays in our memory. We will never forget how the Blanchard\’s Restaurant staff showed up with hammers and saws in hand ready to rebuild. Their love and enthusiasm for the life we had created together warmed our hearts; it was a priceless gift. We had worked hard to build a family of people who sincerely cared about each other and the realization that we had succeeded was just about as wonderful as anything we can imagine.

Think about the memories you\’re creating every day. We all pay attention to major events like weddings, births and graduations and have photo albums filled with those memories. But what about the days in between? How do they stack up against those few special days? Maintaining your dream and living what you love has a great deal to do with the memories you create throughout your life. When you\’re deciding to make a change and to bring the spirit of LWYL into your heart, consider what memories you\’ve created in the past and what kind of memories you want to create from now on.

Our photo albums are filled with family snapshots spanning five decades. We have photos of each of us before we were married, and then piles of albums documenting a million great times with Jesse and his wonderful wife, Maggie. And because so many of our cherished memories are tied to our work, we have photo albums at the restaurant as well. They\’re stuffed with memories of the trips we\’ve taken together with our staff as well as photos of everyday life at the restaurant: Miguel carefully arranging flowers on a table, Lowell and Rinso concocting a new drink at the bar, Tarah greeting guests with her warm, welcoming smile, and Clinton and Hughes grilling lobsters and tossing salads in the kitchen. The memories of our adventures - both personal and business - are our greatest treasures. Some brought tears and others made us jump up and down with joy and excitement. The tearful moments taught us some painful lessons and the joyful occasions have given our life meaning and purpose. But each one of those adventures makes up our life and our history, and we love them all.

If the world were going to end tomorrow, what would you look back on? Would it be the weddings, birthdays and anniversaries? Or would you have countless other experiences that you deliberately chose and dearly value? Maintaining your dream will fill your photo albums with memories from every day of your life. Do something you\’re passionate about and you\’ll want to remember it all. Surround yourself with people you care about, and you won\’t want to forget any of your times together. Create memories that you love. Follow one dream and then another. Live what you love. And even if you don\’t have a camera to take pictures along the way, you\’ll have a heart filled with memories.

Belize Has a Top Exclusive All Inclusive Caribbean Resort

Fresh Article No Comments »

If you want a top exclusive all inclusive Belize resort, then a few miles offshore you will find St. George\’s Caye Resort, which needs checking out before you book anywhere else

An exclusive resort sitting on a very private island, just twenty minutes away from the mainland of Belize sounds more than perfect. The island is called St George?s Caye and it is home to the terrific All Inclusive St. George\’s Caye Resort.

St George?s Caye is the closest inhabited island to mainland Belize it is far enough away to give you, as a guest, all the seclusion you want.

To describe St George?s Caye as a combination of beautiful palm trees, shimmering white sand that almost hurts you eyes to look at, beautiful orchids, and backed by the incredible turquoise Caribbean. Words cannot hope to do it justice, but when you add in the tranquility, and the completely relaxed yet exclusive atmosphere, you still can?t do St. George\’s Caye Resort justice.

Like an exclusive resort should be, whether it is a Caribbean Exclusive resort or anywhere else you look for great service, and that is exactly what you get at St. George\’s Caye Resort. You will be made to feel like royalty such is the quality of the service, and trying to mark it out of 10 would mean 10+ without any question of doubts at all.

Whilst the all inclusive option does include three gourmet meals every day, plus coffee and fresh juice delivered to your door, evening appetizers, and unlimited use of Hobie Cats, windsurfers, kayaks, snorkeling equipment, plus wireless internet service it does not include bar drinks or in room minibar.

The all inclusive meal plan gives you three splendid meals every day, eaten family style so you get to know the few other guests there are at St. George\’s Caye Resort. The meals are of uniformly high quality with lots to choose from, but if you are a bit picky then that is taken care of without fuss. What you will discover is that they make the best fruit juices you can imagine

St George?s Caye is quite narrow and long, and you have the lagoon view cabanas on one side, and the ocean view on the other, and it only takes two minutes to get from one side to the other. The lagoon side has the amazing sunsets, and the view of a tiny island with a very attractive house standing alone, plus views of the mangroves. The ocean side watches the sun come up in all its splendour, and it?s here you have the beach, the pier, the coconut palms, and the thatched sunshades on the beach. The thing to do is to get up early and grab a hammock, and watch the sunset with the coffee that arrives at your door every morning.

Unfortunately whilst the beach looks good it isn?t great for swimming, so the hotel organizes trips to a sandbar, so the guests can swim there.

The accommodation choices are either Oceanfront Cabanas, Lagoon Cabanas, Garden Cabanas, or Resort Rooms, and Resort Reef Rooms which are in the main resort where you take meals. As a preference for privacy the 4 Oceanfront Cabanas, or the 2 Garden Cabanas would be best because the Lagoon Cabanas sit in a semi circle on the decking over the water. They have all been refurbished and are well equipped.

If swimming off the beach is important to you then St. George\’s Caye Resort may not be to your liking, but for scuba divers this place is a good choice. If you want service then you will soon discover why this place is a top exclusive Caribbean Resort.

How to Shop For a Computer Online

Fresh Article No Comments »

Computers are a lot cheaper now than they were fifteen years ago, due to advancements in technology and the onset of more efficient production techniques. In stores, you can find quality computers for as low as four hundred dollars. Although you can get good deals buying from a traditional business, you can save even more money by choosing to shop for a computer online.

If you want the comfort and security of a brand name, you can still opt to purchase from them. Every single major retailer, and even the minor ones, has a website which features information about the company itself and its entire catalog. On your own time, you can browse through the catalog to find the perfect computer to meet your needs. Large corporation websites are usually designed well, easy to read through, and load quickly, meaning it does not take that long to examine a multitude of product pages.

The expediency of online shopping facilitates the process of buying any product, computer or otherwise. With computers, there are several specifications you want to be aware of, such as the hard disk storage space, RAM, type of monitor, etc. In a store, you would need to walk from product to product, reading the small printed characteristics one at a time. When shopping on a website, you can simply open a tab for each product you are interested in, and then speedily skim through each page, reading deeper into computers that you are most interested in.

As always, eBay is an incredible place to turn if you are primarily interested in finding the lowest price. You can quickly browse through listings of new and used computers. Some listings may include an assortment of accessories to go along with the computer, and these are great to look into, as buying a set of items together is cheaper than purchasing them separately. With eBay, you also have the ability to pay with PayPal, meaning you can be sure the transaction is safe and secure.

Price comparison websites show you the prices for the same product from multiple different sources. Google Product Search, originally known as Froogle, was one of the first price comparison services. While Google Product Search does not take any commissions on the products it sells through the service, many other product comparison services make a lot of money on commission. By utilizing one of the dozens of services on the Internet, you can find the lowest price on an individual product, without having to go to each vendor separately.

Knowing how to buy a computer online is essentially worthless if you do not know what to look for in a computer system. If you are just going to be using the computer for business purposes, you do not need to spend extra money on an enhanced graphics card or a higher amount of RAM. You may, however, want to get a webcam for video conference purposes. What you are going to be using the computer for determines exactly what you need.

Whatever you are going to use a computer for, you probably need more than just the CPU and monitor. Accessories you will probably require include speakers, a printer, and a higher-quality mouse. Finding accessories works the same way as finding a computer, except you do not need to spend as much time deciding on smaller devices.

If You Are Considering Buying a LCD HD Television Read This

Fresh Article No Comments »

Unless you have been on a desert island for the last few years, you will be aware of the rise of the LCD HDTV format. There are advertisements for them everywhere and you probably know of several friends that have them already. If you have not yet considered buying a LCD HDTV, then perhaps now is the time that you should. Prices are getting lower and if you do your research you can get a great deal.

It is not until you see a LCD HDTV in reality that you realize the difference in visual quality to standard televisions of the past. The market data seems to indicate that LCD HDTV\’s are here to stay. In 2007 sales of LCD televisions surpassed the standard format for the first time.

Should you decide to purchase a LCD HDTV then you probably have a few queries. This article will help you understand the most commonly asked questions about them. LCD HDTV means Liquid Crystal Display High Definition Television. These televisions are thinner and flatter than the standard models of the past and are comprised of a fixed number of colors or pixels that shine in front of a light source. High Definition Television is a digital system that has a much higher resolution than standard models.

So as you can see, the LCD HDTV provides a far superior television than the more conventional systems. In comparison to the standard television models there are a great deal of benefits. A LCD HDTV is thinner and flatter and this allows you to place one in a small room without compromising space. Many people like to fix the LCD HDTV to a wall as this helps to maximize the living space even more.

One of the great things about these HDTV\’s is that they provide theater-like visual and sound quality. They are almost always in wide screen with the aspect ratio set at 16:9, which is the same as a movie theater screen. All HDTV\’s are also capable of using Dolby Digital Surround.

Perhaps the best feature of an LCD HDTV is the picture quality. When you see the picture for the first time you are struck by the sharpness of the picture and the amount of detail in comparison to a standard television. The images in a HDTV are twice as sharp as that of a conventional model. This is because it uses a greater lineal resolution that makes the image appear more lifelike and provides richer colors. This technology also greatly reduces interference as the HDTV signal does not display lines or snowing on the picture.

Should you purchase a HDTV and then plug it in at home you may be disappointed to only get a standard picture. In order to receive the full benefits of an LCD HDTV you will need to get a HD receiver and the HD channels.

The most important factor beforehand is finding out whether you can get a HD source. In order to receive the HD signal you need to check the satellite or cable provider in your city for further details.

Assuming this to be the case, you will then need to purchase a HD box so that you can start to receive the high-definition signal. Most providers are launching new versions of popular channels in high-definition all the time so once you are set up then you will be able to enjoy the complete visual and audio experience that the LCD HDTV provides.

Cash Gifting the Real Deal Or Another Internet Scam

Fresh Article No Comments »

Believe it or not, this concept has been around for many years. It has been embraced by private groups of people for some time now. This does not involve, multi-level marketing, network marketing or any business or commercial activity. There are no lotions, potions or pills to have to pawn off on all of your relatives and friends.

There are no business investments, transactions and/or securities involved in the cash gifting program. There is no company or business name or location and there are no officers, directors, principals or shareholders. Private individuals support each other utilizing a team concept and help and do change lives.

The concept of cash gifting is based upon the fact that both Canadian and American citizens have the right as put forth by the Constitution to gift cash, property and other assets. You can find the U.S. gifting rules in the IRS Tax Code.

It is stated by law that one or more persons is allowed to give a gift to another person of up to $11,000 each calendar year without incurring any tax liability to either the giver or the receiver of the gift. This is due to the fact that the tax on this gift has already been paid. The gross income of the recipient does not take into account these gifts.

How did this concept begin: It is the truest expression of kindness to give private gifts to each other. This has been going on for hundreds of years. Governments have allowed its practice for people to share their wealth with friends, family members and others. It is not only a means of helping but of blessing others at special times of the year and when the need arises.

Jewish, Asian and South American communities gift private individuals with their culture regularly so that they may either buy a home or start a business. They then return the favor and gift someone else in order to enhance their lives. One great example of private gifting is Habitat for Humanity. Everyone joins in with their talents, time and materials to erect a home for someone less fortunate. Some people participate with tools, some with nails, some with cash gifts to buy supplies and some even give food. All pull together as a team in order to work together to bless someone else\’s life.

How does cash gifting work: This program works in that it is only offered by private invitation only. When the invitation is accepted, the person moves through a natural progression of things from giving to the receiving stage. In the cash gifting program, there is no fixed hierarchy of persons who take unfair advantage over new participants.

Who can participate: Since this is a private sharing group, the invitation can be extended to individuals who are over 18 years old. You are invited to learn more about the cash gifting experience and become part of something that is truly extraordinary. It makes no difference as to your geographical location.

Any individual can do this. You can be currently employed either full-time or part-time, be retired, a student, a busy housewife, unemployed, disabled or a single parent. The cash gifting program will help you generate cash that you can have delivered right to your door.

Did MySpace and FaceBook Kill Picture Rating?

Fresh Article No Comments »

Remember the old days of the Internet, before the MySpace and FaceBook social-boom, when we would all flock to join Rate My Picture websites to befriend strangers and egotistically rate pictures on a scale from 1-10 to determine if we were hot or not? If not, then it was before your time or when computers cost more than used Cadillacs.

Oh those days of Rating Pictures! You use to check your account religiously just to see if you received new votes with the hopes of being scored high enough to earn fame on the websites top list. Those were the good old days of social networking and self-indulgence!

But times have changed with the new generation of the Internet. With websites like MySpace, FaceBook, and YouTube we no longer barter with strangers for votes to earn a spot in the top 25, we now harass our friends to comment our pictures and profiles with compliments so we can smile and secure them a spot in our own Top 8, 16, or 124.

There is no longer a need for picture rating websites. Because between bottle highlights, fake tanning sprays, and diva knock-off Prada and Coach sun glasses we are ALL hot! And we are all hot because under every photo on our MySpaces and FaceBooks 106 guys and girls agree.

Half of you are sitting there smiling and shaking your heads in agreement. The other half are rolling their eyes and thinking 106 guys? More like 313!. Just because you have 6,000+ friends on MySpace that all tell you you\’re hotter than Paris Hilton to get your number, doesn\’t make you any hotter than the next girl! Ouch. The possibility of that statement being even remotely true probably sent you on a psychotic friend requesting frenzy.

While your friends will all tell you you\’re cute no matter what, strangers with no ulterior motive generally will speak the truth. Your average picture rating website may no longer be hip in 2008 but there are still modern alternatives out there to get your pictures rated and ranked that are still cool to use.

Traditional rating websites give you a 1-10 rating based off anonymous voting. Your score is misleading because you will have no idea who voted for you. You wouldn\’t brag or complain about a vote from someone if you had zero interest in their opinion, would you? Only if you knew exactly who voted for you!

A modern rating website called PicFights offers a unique spin on rating pictures. Members aren\’t voted on a 1-10 scale. They are matched up against other members in picture competitions. Once a match is drawn a random member decides the winner. All members can view who they won and lost against, and even who judged the match. It\’s this in your face approach that once again makes rating pictures fun, addicting, and sometimes even, emotionally damaging!

So take a few minutes away from annoying your friends on MySpace and reminding your ex-classmates on FaceBook that you really do plan to see them this summer, and go register an account on PicFights, or a similar website to not only see how hot you are but how truthful your friends are the next time they leave you comments!

More List Building Secrets - 7 Reasons Why You Must Build a Responsive List For Internet Marketing Success

Fresh Article No Comments »

Everyone talks about how great list marketing is, but it sure is a lot of work! You\’ve got to set up an autoresponder, develop free content to draw customers in and then get your message out where your prospects can see it! However, the old saying rings true - if it wasn\’t so hard, it wouldn\’t be worth it. The following are seven of the top reasons to focus on building an email list:

1. To Make Money

Yes, this is an obvious one - you wouldn\’t be interested in internet marketing if you didn\’t want to make money. Building a list of highly-responsive, hungry customers is one of the easiest ways to start making money online. When you take the time to build relationships with your customers and establish your role as an expert in the field, you\’ll find that that they reward your hard work with their checkbooks.

2. To Gain More Qualified Buyers

Some experts estimate that only 2% of people will purchase a product when they come directly from a PPC ad to a sales page. However, if you can get that person to hand over their personal information and sign up for your newsletter, that percentage can increase by as much as 30%. When people sign up for your list, they\’ve pre-qualified themselves - you know they\’re interested in what you have to say. You can use this to your advantage by targeting products to the specific interests they\’ve expressed by signing up for your list.

3. For Free Market Research

If you\’re thinking of putting together a new product, the easiest way to figure out what your customers want is to ask them! Set up a brief survey through any one of the free survey sites available and offer a small incentive to any member of your list who takes the time to fill it out. While other marketers are blindly cranking out products, you can use their responses to create your next product and then sell it back to them. How much easier can it get?

4. To Cut Your Advertising Dollars

Many people use pay-per-click advertising for their new product launches. And while this is a great way to drive traffic quickly, it can get expensive - especially if you\’re active in some of the more competitive niches. Building a list of customers can dramatically cut your advertising expenses. Suppose you\’re active in a niche where the average PPC cost is $.30/click. Sending your message to 1,000 list members could save you as much as $300!

5. For the JV Potential

When you have a responsive list, you\’ll find that other marketers want to work with you to promote their products on your list. These marketing opportunities are a great way to bring in extra revenue with minimal effort, but be careful whom you choose to do business with. Carefully review any product you plan to promote, as well as the terms of the partnership agreement.

6. To Enter New Niches with Ease

Suppose you\’re planning to enter a new niche related to the one you\’re currently in. When you have an established list, you\’ve already got a customer base that trusts you and listens to you. You won\’t need to go out and spend your advertising dollars attracting new prospects - sending a simple promotional message will get you up and running quickly.

7. For the Bragging Rights

Okay - I\’ll admit it. Ego isn\’t the noblest of reasons to build a list, but it sure is a good feeling to know that you have 500, 1,000 or even more people eager to hear what you have to say.
